Overview

After researching, we were unable to locate the building code adoption ordinance. However, we contacted Randy Kern (on July 24th, 2023) who informed us:
"Rio Grande County has adopted the 2018 versions of the IBC, IRC, IEBC, IMC, & IECC.":

Rio Grande County, CO adopts the following codes:

• The International Building Code, 2018 edition.
• The International Residential Code, 2018 edition.

Residential Building Code

Colorado has yet to adopt a statewide residential code. Local laws will control.See PLRB, Colorado Building Codes for more information on state level codes.

Rio Grande County adopted the 2018 IRC, locally. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.

Contacted Randy Kern, Building Inspector, (6/25/2020) who informed us that "Ice barrier is required as this area has had a history of ice dams."

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.

After researching, we were unable to locate the building code adoption ordinance.

There is no mention of the adoption of Appendix J of the 2018 IRC.

Commercial Building Code

Rio Grande County adopted the 2018 IBC, locally. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.
